I wasn't really sure what to expect when I was asked by the Imperial War Museum to head down to the HMS Belfast on the river Thames and photograph masks for an art intervention, to be honest I didn't even know what an art intervention was, but I figured if nothing else it would be interesting and it certainly didn't disappoint. The Belfast is a spooky place when it's dark and there's nobody around! I had to set up a makeshift studio and then artist Huw Locke arrived with bags and bags of weird and wonderful cardboard masks which he has now fitted to the mannequins which are dotted around the ship. It's an imagining of an alternative reality where the Belfast made it to Trinidad in time for the carnival in 1962.
The Tourists by artist Huw Locke is being staged on the HMS Belfast until the 7th September 2015
